Selection philosophy

Teams will be selected taking into account the high performance goals and priorities. The selectors have outlined that priority will be placed on key events that have been identified within the national pathway. These events involve high quality players and specific disciplines. The selection process also takes into account the performance of athletes in these events.

Key selection events

In order of priority:

• Australian Open
• Grand prix series (including the Australian Indoor)
• State championships
• Australian Sides Championships
(Should be read in conjunction with the athlete pathway)

Selection criteria

The selectors have highlighted the following factors as important when selecting squads and teams:

• Player attitude, discipline and professionalism, commitment to the HP program
• Domestic results in the nominated key events
• International success
• Consistency of performance
• Range of shots
• Shot selection
• Tactical expertise
• Technical expertise
• Ability to adapt to different playing surfaces
• Attendance at the nominated key events
• Ability to fit into the team environment
• Mental toughness and stamina
